Akruti: A school for educating children with special needs within the age group of 4-16 years. Every child is examined and evaluated by a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist before admission. Clinical report of each child is maintained in the school. There is a regular follow up of the progress with the family members and the staff of AMC.
The Various Facets Of The Services At AMC
PRAGATI: A multi category vocational training centre for adolescents and adults. The multi-category section began in April, 1973. Young adults with IDD are provided training in various vocational skills like Weaving, Carpentry; Candle making, Paper products, Pottery and Tailoring at this centre.
SANSKRITI: The trainees who achieve moderate levels of skills at Pragati and are able to work under minimum supervision are given an opportunity to work at various sections at the sheltered workshop.
DAY CARE CENTER
A Day Care facility is maintained by AMC for individuals with severe IDD. They are looked after and cared by trained staff and engaged in occupational therapy like arranging the beads, sanding the wood, creating balls of yarn and watering plants.
SAMRUDDHI: The families have constant challenge of caring and supporting the intellectually challenged throughout the life. Recognizing this need, the goal of Samruddhi Programme is to strengthen and enrich the families of the beneficiaries. The mission is to develop a model of life long support to these families.
CHILD GUIDANCE CLINIC
A team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Social workers visit monthly to provide comprehensive assessment and guidance to the staff and parents of our beneficiaries. The proximity to NIMHANS helps us in maintaining strong professional link and AMC is getting assistance and co-operation in all areas such as assessment, consultation and guidance from NIMHANS on regular basis.
PARENT’S SELF HELP GROUP
Parents of the beneficiaries of AMC have formed a parent Self help Group. The group works to support each other and enhance the caring skills of the family members to meet the needs of their wards. This group is being ably led by two of the Committee Members who ensure that various benefits and supports available from the Government reaches the families.
