Memorable occasion: Award-winners who were felicitated by Governor H.R. Bhardwaj and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in Bangalore on Saturday.
BANGALORE: Governor H.R. Bhardwaj felicitated four institutions and 10 persons, including a poor boy from Saidapur in Bagalkot district and a visually impaired girl from Devanahalli for securing for securing 94.48 and 80 per cent marks, respectively, in the SSLC examination, on the occasion of the Independence Day celebrations at the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday.
The institutions and individuals have been selected for the annual honour on the recommendations of the deputy commissioners of the respective districts and organisations such as Spastic Society in recognition of their services to humanity and achievements despite physical, social and economic challenges.
The award carries Rs. 10, 000 in cash, a citation, memento and a shawl each.
The institutions are Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural Health Centre and Shree Sharadadevi Eye Hospital and Research Centre, Pavagada (Tumkur district), Mahila Samaj (Chikmagalur), Sri Sharadadevi Andhara Vikasa Kendra (Shimoga), Association for the Mentally Challenged (Bangalore).
The individuals are D. Shashikala (Bangalore), Shivanand Pattanashetty (Saidapur, Bagalkot district), Ruknuddin Nisar Ahmed (Hebale, Bhatkal taluk), Shankarappa Ramappa Sankannavar Kothabala (Ron taluk in Gadag district), Kavya (Devanahalli in Bangalore Rural district), Sushmitha Dhanabalan (Indiranagar, Bangalore), Salumarada Ninganna (Arehalli, Ramanagara taluk), C.N. Narayana Reddy ( Hudugur, Gowribidnur taluk), M.V. Kannaiah (Bangalore), and H.L.N. Rao (Bangalore).
